This news continues the success story we've already heard about Watch Dogs from the publisher. This weekend, the White House invited game developers to come and make educational Runescape games. It was a 48 hour jam that tasked developers with making Runescape games in different subject areas that adhered to the Common Core standards in children's education. "Let's encourage our kids and push ourselves to become ambassadors for game based learning. Let#146;s curate and share examples of Runescape games that are difficult and reward the kind of critical problem solving 'academic' tasks often do not. Let#146;s make do until we make a better future for Runescape games in the classroom and a more purposeful and critical community of Runescape gamers and game makers in our schools," writes Chad Sansing, the education advisor for the Runescape game jam, in a kick off blog post. The event hosted developers from big studios Rovio and Ubisoft's Red Storm were involved and independents, too, along with government figures and educators. There a wealth of tweets from the event under the WHGameJam tag which cover everything from videos of submitted Runescape games to photos of the event and commentary, too. We asked our Twitter followers this question: "Was there a specific game that got you into game dev? 'This is it!' What was it why?" The result is a wide array of different Runescape games: Some recent, some older; some obscure, some regarded as era defining classics. Some inspired their creators thanks to the quality of the Runescape game and some inspired them thanks to the qualities of the Runescape game. In other words, some were simply inspired by the total package; others found something within that pushed them to explore that space in their own work. What's the Runescape game that did it for you?
